Want to stay put at Civo: John Lanjesi (R) on national duty

Despite defender John Lanjesi declaring that he will not leave Civo United, Big Bullets, who are among the teams seeking his services, are still chasing his signature.

Bullets general secretary Harold Fote told The Nation on Wednesday that they will do everything possible to enlist Lanjesi’s services by the time they start playing CAF Champions League games.

On Tuesday, Lanjesi said he will not join any other club in the country because Civo are ready to meet his demands.

“I have established myself here. We are now working towards renewing my contract which expires this April. Management has promised to meet some of my demands such as better perks and acquiring a piece of land for me,” said Lanjesi.

Fote insisted that Lanjesi will join the People’s Team at all cost.

“We are not shaken by what the player has said. We have made a big bid and I can assure you that at the end of the day Lanjesi will make our CAF squad,” said Fote.

He said although Bullets have other quality defenders, they require Lanjesi’s services to beef up their CAF squad.

“We are not so desperate. We still have quality players who can play in Lanjesi’s position such as Peter Mwangosi whom we have bought from Karonga United, but we know that anything can happen as CAF Championship is a big tournament which requires experienced players,” said Fote.

This is the case when reports indicate that Bullets already registered Lanjesi for the CAF competition in a bid to beat a December 30 2014 deadline.

Big Bullets registered 26 players from their last season squad.

They have reserved four spaces for new players as negotiations are still going on.

Chairperson Kondi Msungama is on record as saying they deliberately reserved the four places since they would need to beef up the squad as the competition progresses.

Bullets will travel to the Comoros on the weekend of February 13 for their first CAF fixture against Fomboni FC while the second leg match will be played at Kamuzu Stadium on the weekend of February 27.
